Our Midtown, GA, dentists, Dr. Laura Koch, Dr. Andrew Soulimiotis and Dr. Sunny Patel, like for you to have choices, whether you are choosing cosmetic dentistry or a restorative option. We understand how stressful losing a tooth can be, which is why we want to make it easy to restore your tooth and regain a full smile. Find out how dental implants can do this and more!

An implant is a small metal post or screw that is placed into the jawbone. The purpose of a dental implant is to take the place of your missing tooth’s roots, which provides a stable foundation to support a tooth.

A dental implant most closely mimics a natural tooth, as it is the only dental restoration that naturally fuses together with bone and tissue to permanently support a dental crown or other dental prosthetics (e.g. bridges or dentures).

Once the implant is placed into the jawbone and the gums are stitched up, we will give your mouth a couple of months to fully heal. It’s during this healing period that the gums and tissue begin to meld together with the titanium post to become one. Once this is complete, we will be able to place an abutment over the implant.

An abutment is meant to link the implant, which no one will be able to see because it’s under the gums, to a dental crown or other restoration.

Once the abutment is placed and the gums have been given time to heal once more, the dental restoration (often a crown) is then secured on top of the abutment. Implants can give you a strong, capable smile once again!
